Don't worry, you will see nothing normal here.
Microscope is very pleased to present a screening of works by New York-based artist Nina Sobell featuring a selection of videos spanning more than 50 years, from 1971 – shot with a Sony Portapak — to her present-day inquiries using social media platforms and AI. Through her very uniquely empathic lens, she has proposed a type of art based on human interactions through physical installations as well as through other forms of communication mediated by new tools and machines. Sobell will be in attendance and available for a Q&A following the screening.
Douglas Dunn invites artist Hannes Schüpbach to screen his film Essais (2020, 43’), with choreographed shots of dancer Kira Blazek Ziaii – a Douglas Dunn + Dancers member 2008 to 2014 – in an exchange of gestures with artists Stephen Watts, Éléonore Bernard, Heba-Raphaëlle Meffre, Flurin Cuonz, Marco Baschera and Jiajia Zhang. In the fleeting space of the film they all engage in some kind of self-experiment.
Microscope is very pleased to present “ƨlɒƨɿɘvɘЯ” as the 3rd solo exhibition at the gallery by New York artist Joel Schlemowitz. With new acrylic on canvas paintings, corrugated cardboard sculptures, and a five-projector 35mm slide installation, Schlemowitz consider the evolution of art mediums, the nature of their preservation, and the impact of the influx of constantly upgrading technological mediums on art and art history.
