No other avant-garde filmmaker explored and celebrated the aesthetics of home movies with more fervor and complexity than Brakhage, most notably in his Songs, Sincerity, Nightmare, and Duplicity series. This program, selected by his wife Marilyn Brakhage, is a sampling of this work. Program 95 min.

The theme for 2020 is “The Other”. With over 500 years of non-conformism in the Calder valley, the theme is fitting. We will be celebrating films by or about those who dare to be different, whether they exist in the margins, sit outside the mainstream or just plain don’t fit in.
Altered Images is a spontaneous space for experimental film production, videoart, installations and live music. The festival aims to showcase silent or sound movies that are open to a sound reinterpretation. Our showcase is open to artists all around the world whose works have an experimental and innovative character.
