    This call is exclusive to filmmakers based in the Los Angeles metro area. We are looking for strange and experimental shorts to be featured in The New Film Underground Volume 6 screening on Feb. 25th in downtown Los Angeles.

  • Live Soundtrack 2023 - Call for entries

    Monthly festival / A/V event "Live Soundtrack" is seeking for short or feature films without dialogue, which will be accompanied by alternative soundtracking and live performances by various electronic / ambient/ electroacoustic musicians, during the 8th season of the event (April - December 2023). Festival organiser is the curator of the musicians for each event, but a collaboration with the original composer of the film is also possible, if in Europe!

    Found footage filmmaking is a practice involving reappropriating and remixing previously shot or created materials for new, innovative purposes. Filmmakers working in this tradition utilize many different methods of transforming moving images—from physically manipulating motion-picture film to juxtaposing disparate content through clever editing to glitching digital video and video game software—to critically examine its original meaning, context, and cultural significance.

  • Teddy Bears and Little Friends: The films of “Nanny" Lynn Ochberg

    Thirty years ago, VHS tapes containing striking Commodore Amiga animations started showing up at parties, micro cinemas, and living rooms across the country. Each copy was made to satisfy the audience's thirst for more of these narratively diverse films showcasing fairy tales, dinosaurs, consumption, play, politics, and even the Bosnian War. Those holding their tapes were left hungry in their pursuit of figuring out the true identity of its creator, Nanny Lynn. In the late 2010s, renewed interest led to the discovery of Lynn Ochberg, an Octogenarian Grandmother living in Florida whose oeuvre of animated wonders was created for her grandchildren.

  • Xcèntric: Women Light Music I

    This season’s opening session presents a series of films that address the relationship between women and musical composition. These are films with composition models very similar to those of music, scores where the sounds are notated in the form of images that work on their synchrony, where what is seen and what is heard is often materially the same. These kinetic compositions by Eugènia Balcells, Mary Ellen Bute, Lis Rhodes and Blanca Rego serve as a pretext to highlight the presence of female composers in the history of music.
