OT 301 and Cinema of the Dam'd is excited to present Gwendolyn Audrey Foster, who will present, in person, a selection of her punk, queer, experimental handmade feminist films including new, previously unscreened, films and videos made in 2018.
Gwendolyn Audrey Foster is an experimental filmmaker and video installation artist whose artwork is informed by punk DIY, queer feminism and the Dadaists, Surrealists and Situationists who championed détournement (seizing and abstracting “found” advertising images and sounds, in order to subvert meaning.) Surrealist dreams, loud punk colors, aggressive political themes, her work is decidedly anti-commercial and is often haunting, lyrical and subversive, embracing the space between film and digital aesthetics. Foster’s work has been described as hypnotic, surreal, and enigmatic.
Foster’s experimental films and installations have been showcased at Outfest (LA), Bi Arts Festival (Toronto), Anthology Film Archives (NYC), The Collective for Living Cinema (NYC), Swedish Cinemateket, Films de Femmes (Créteil), Women’s Film Festival (Madrid), Kyobo Center, (Korea), Forum Yokohama (Japan), Studio 44 (Stockholm), Museum of the Future (Berlin), X-12 Festival (UK), BWA Contemporary Art Museum (Poland), Filmhuis Cavia (Amsterdam), nGKB gallery (Berlin), Chimeres Space (Athens), Engauge Festival (Seattle), and many other venues and festivals around the world.
Screening and Q & A with filmmaker. 15 December, at 19:00.
