    No other avant-garde filmmaker explored and celebrated the aesthetics of home movies with more fervor and complexity than Brakhage, most notably in his Songs, Sincerity, Nightmare, and Duplicity series.   • HBFF Short Film Submission 2020

    Submissions are open for Short and Feature Films for consideration in the 2020 Hebden Bridge Film Festival programme.

    The theme for 2020 is “The Other”. With over 500 years of non-conformism in the Calder valley, the theme is fitting. We will be celebrating films by or about those who dare to be different, whether they exist in the margins, sit outside the mainstream or just plain don’t fit in.

  • BURNING: Ceremony, War, Art. New Films by Larry Gottheim

    Larry Gottheim is a key figure in the history and development of American avant-garde cinema through the 1970s and 1980s. His early "minimal" films, such as FOG LINE, are well-known and have been widely shown at museums in the U.S. and Europe. His recent films have played in Europe and at the EXis festival in Seoul. Gottheim also founded the celebrated Cinema Department at Binghamton University, where he worked until 1998.
