British-Australian live cinema artist Sally Golding, winner of the 2017 Oram Award, and UK electronic musician and creative technologist Spatial work together to create an immersive space situated between cinema and club. Their performances unravel in the spirit of a ‘happening’ – an encounter between audiences, space and the elements of cinematic abstraction – which they explore via their interest in expanded cinema and sound system culture.
El (S8) Mostra Internacional de Cinema Periférico regresará a A Coruña del 31 de mayo al 4 de junio para celebrar un aniversario especial -‐su 8ª edición-‐ con una ambiciosa programación. La nueva edición, bajo el título de Objetos y apariciones, estrá inspirada por el foundfootage o “metraje encontrado” bajo la figura del artista origen de dicho proceso cinematográfico, Joseph Cornell. El legado del creador multidisciplinar y surrealista norteamericano ha guiado la elaboración del cartel oficial, donde, imitando una suerte de caja de Cornell, se recoge el espíritu de la apropiación para reflejar toda su filosofía. Junto a él, el (S8) presentará los trabajos de dos de los representantes más destacados del found footage en la actualidad: Cécile Fontaine y Luther Price. Además, el programa Found Sounds, comisariado por Mónica Savirón, girará en torno a la obra de la holandesa Barbara Meter.

Close-Up and Unconscious Archives are delighted to present a selection of recent 16mm films by Berlin based artist-fillmmakers Anja Dornieden and Juan David González Monroy - including their dual-projector "Traumatoscope" performance New Museum of Mankind.
Perpetual Motion is the most comprehensive convergence of international performance cinema practitioners ever seen in the Bay Area. Presented over seven evenings September 16–December 7, 2016, with all artists performing in person, this series is curated by San Francisco Cinematheque and will be presented at Gray Area’s historic Grand Theater, located in San Francisco’s Mission District.
Featured artists include the return of legendary experimental filmmaker Ken Jacobs (NYC), rising Montréal duo Le Révélateur (video artist Sabrina Ratté & musician Roger Tellier-Craig, of Fly Pan AM and formerly Godspeed You! Black Emperor) and in a rare North American appearance, the spectacular Trinchera Ensamble film-performance collective from Mexico City.
Australian-British artist Sally Golding presents two new audiovisual installations which conclude her year-long Embedded residency, delivered in partnership with Sound and Music and the South London Gallery (SLG).
The installations explore Golding’s interest in perception and phenomenology, and consider audiovisual art as a participatory experience. Golding’s work questions states of reality, challenging notions of narrative and the act of perceiving through the deployment of sonic and visual fragments, and the reworking of the bare components of audiovisual media such as light, substrate, and amplification.

Close-Up and OtherFilm present a series of films by experimental filmmakers Makino Takashi and Rei Hayama. The films of Takashi and Hayama, two founding members of the Tokyo film collective [+], are hallucinatory distortions evoking chaos and patterns, nature and organic forms, filtered through an undulating macro and micro impasto view. Takashi’s performative films use points of threshold to push the viewer into beautifully overwhelming transcendent states – where visual and sonic noise engulf senses and imagination. Hayama’s films make gentle use of available resources – soil and insects become her abstract muses, and hand cranked celluloid film processed in coffee are subtle throw backs to harmonious ways of being.
During the 42nd Film Fest Gent, Art Cinema OFFoff collaborates with Vooruit and Film Fest Gent and brings a night focused on (British) Expanded Cinema. The visitors will be dazzled by multiple projections on one screen and become the protagonists. Expect both iconic and (yet) unknown performances from the (British) underground.
Great triple-bill featuring compelling and immersive approaches to film projection from Japanese artist Makino Takashi and Unconscious Archives' Sally Golding – both solo and in a special duo collaboration also featuring Spatial – and solo percussion from American composer Nick Hennies, who'll be performing pieces by Peter Ablinger, John Cage and his own work.

El sonido óptico es donde la imagen de la película se lee como sonido. Mientras la película recorre el proyector de 16mm, pasa por la cabeza de sonido y por un proceso donde las fluctuaciones de luz causadas por la imagen en la película son leídas como señales eléctricas produciendo sonido. Los participantes desarrollarán métodos para utilizar e interactuar con proyectores de 16mm —practicando manipulaciones de proyección con loops y objetos, utilizando artefactos que interfieren con la luz y el sonido. Al final del taller, los participantes actuarán en solitario, en dúo o como una "big band" para darle vida a una proyección expandida y a improvisaciones auditivas.
