  • IV MUTA International Festival of Audiovisual Appropriation

    By on

Before the hegemony of the image, succumb or doubt them. We choose the latter. Question what it represents and search beyond its surface. We believe in the multiple possibilities of interpretation of moving images and the power that their appropriation has to demonstrate it. Coating, manipulating or reusing have been frequent concepts in each of our previous editions. And this year, due to the health context, we add another that defines us fully: mutate. We take the virtual space to deliver, with the same care and affection as always, our fourth edition.

Saturday, July 18, 2020 (All day) to Sunday, July 26, 2020 (All day)

  • The Festival of (In)appropriation #10

    By on

Collage or compilation. Found footage film or recycled cinema. Remix or détournement. Whatever one might call it, the practice of incorporating preexistent media into new artworks engenders novel juxtapositions, new ideas, and latent connotations… often entirely unrelated to the intentions of the original makers. In that regard, such works are truly “inappropriate.” Indeed, the act of (in)appropriation can reveal unimagined relationships between past and present, here and there, intention and subversion, artist and critic, and perhaps even compel us to reexamine what it means to be the "producer" or "consumer" of visual culture itself.

In 2018, the city of Blanquefort appealed to the Metavilla studio to imagine an innovative project that could educate young and old about digital practices and cultures.
