  • 7th (S8) Mostra de Cinema Periférico: New Impressionists

    By on

(S8) Mostra de Cinema Periférico celebrates its seventh edition in A Coruña from June 1 to 5. This time the festival will hold a special edition under the tilte of "New Impressionists", bringing together both emergent and veteran filmmakers whose work engages the experimentation with light and its pictorial qualities. Probing the limits of sensory perception and subjectivity, this group of filmmakers has signed some of the most visually stimulating works made in recent years. This is the case of Canadian filmmaker Stephen Broomer that will present a fine selection of his 16mm works. Films in which the colors and textures evoke the work of the original Impressionists, and in which the author uses fast sweeps, collisions and movements that challenge the eye, and make imagine the filmmaker operating the camera as if you ran a box light with the ways of action painting.

  • In Vino Veritas: Secrets of the Intoxicated Life

    By on

Drugs have been used to access the spiritual dimensions of existence in many cultures since the dawn of civilization.  Artists have likewise sought to escape the confines of the rational mind through the use of substances that expand the senses, alter perception, and suspend the repression of the conscious mind. And others, eager to subvert the conventions of a prevailing culture, have hoped to achieve liberation and even Enlightenment by modifying how they thought.  In Vino Veritas: Secrets of the Intoxicated Life will explore the heights and depths of consciousness to reveal truths inaccessible to the sober.

  • L’Âge d’Or 2015

    By on

Belgian experimental film festival L’Âge d’Or comes back next October 3-10 with the second edition of its new run. 2015 celebrates the 50th anniversary of Super 8 and so for its second edition, the Âge d’Or festival has chosen to pay homage to the work of the fiercest advocates of this format, too often denigrated and considered ‘amateur’. A format however that has been, and sometimes still is, the terrain of innovative cinematic experiments, full of the constraints that only it can create.

  • Dobra Festival Internacional de Cinema Experimental

    By on

DOBRA states itself as a space of resistance that wants to share with the audience a micro-perception, going in the opposite direction of the cliches that large corporate media and mass communication logic impose. Vanishing lines to what Peter Pál Pelbart calls beast life, and what we might call the beast perception. To welcome these smaller perceptions that turn aside the pre-set movements that reject any desire to completeness or whole orders.
