“The films in this program represent a number of different stylistic tendencies in filmmaking which coexisted during the 1980s, in an environment where films were screened in clubs along with performances and live music, and often on the same night. The fluidity of performers, filmmakers, and musicians collaborating created a particularly vibrant and unique element of nightlife.

Microscope is very pleased to present All that is solid melts into eros, the second solo exhibition at the gallery by Bradley Eros. In this exhibition devoted to ephemerality – a concept the artist has been radically engaging with, especially in film, video, collage, and performance, since the 1980s when he arrived in New York – Eros presents a new body of work “made of ice, ash, paper, foil, and plastic that will be altered, or disappear and be remade daily”.

“Burn” es un ciclo de piezas de cineastas y video-artistas que emplean en sus obras formas de apropiación, desmaterialización y manipulación de señales electrónicas. Estas piezas subvierten los códigos visuales de los mass media, reposicionando materiales como comerciales, pornografía y películas de Hollywood. Al “quemar” archivos contemporáneos, estos artistas crean nuevos textos que desafían nuestra forma de ver las construcciones sociales dominantes.

Microscope is excited to present a screening of James Fotopoulos’ first feature film ‘’Zero” in its original format on the occasion of its 20th anniversary, introduced by Bradley Eros who along with Brian Frye presented the work in its first “real screening” in the US on November 21, 2000 at the Robert Beck Memorial Cinema (RBMC), which took place the Lower East Side space Collective Unconscious.

For the 10th and final event of "Dreamlands: Expanded", a series of expanded cinema events organized by Microscope in collaboration with the Whitney Museum of American Art as part of the exhibition "Dreamlands: Immersive Cinema and Art, 1905-2016", we are thrilled to present a new multi-projection and sound performance "The Owl Flies at Twilight" composed by the Optipus collective & orchestra in its largest configuration to date featuring 28 artists.

New York collective or “media laboratory” Optipus, led by Bradley Eros, hints at the historic demise of analog media and the wisdom resulting from this awareness in their new work titled “The Owl Flies at Twilight”, referencing G.W.F. Hegel’s famous quote.
