After the interruption determined by the confinement period decreed by the Portuguese government, the exhibition First Impressions of a Landscape, by João Nisa, at Solar – Cinematic Art Gallery, in Vila do Conde, Portugal, is reopening the 5th April and will be showing until the 2nd May.
Primeiras Impressões de uma Paisagem / First Impressions of a Landscape is an installation created by João Nisa for the space of the Solar – Cinematic Art Gallery (Vila do Conde, Portugal) using a selection of material from the film with the same name, currently in its finishing process.
Shot inside the Águas Livres Aqueduct, on the outskirts of Lisbon, the project is based on the use of a stretch of that architectonic structure as a series of camera obscura devices, in order to develop a study of the surrounding landscape, mediated by the specific way the images are produced.
The installation presented at Solar proposes a path through six projections, intending to create the conditions for each to be apprehended in all its singularity, in a context that accentuates the project’s strong perceptive and sensorial qualities.
‘When all is said and done, it is striking that these images remain as surprising after one has been let in on the process used to create them as when one knew nothing of it. To such an extent a true perceptual anomaly is presented.’
