Performative film (1H00)
Evenings of the 25, 26, 27 of may 2018
Featuring Linda Marlowe, Jenny Runacre, Lucien Sénémaud and Omar Sharif. Soundscore by Gavin Bryars. Production by Philomène Hoël.

Inside the gallery artist Philomène Hoël presents six performative screenings, from 25-27 May at Chalton Gallery, London, featuring films of Stephen Dwoskin, Jean Genet, and soundpiece by Gavin Bryars. It is the last work from a series in dialogue with the film piece Dyn Amo from the artist and film-maker Stephen Dwoskin (1973).

Using a self-engineered device, Hoël will activate and interpose footage on three screens, conducting them like a live orchestra.
Each film used by the artist suffers from a sense of exploitation from different points: the Film-maker, the subject, and the audience.

In this piece, Hoël is interested in the gendered nature of this exploitation, the ethical concerns this raises by activating power games between the interlocutors of the work. - Moira Ann Salt
