American Falls (Phil Solomon, 2010)Last Saturday April 10 was the opening of American Falls, a six-channel multimedia installation by Phil Solomon specially commisioned by the Corcoran Gallery of Art. Curated by Paul Roth, the installation is on view in conjunction with the retrospective Helios: Eadweard Muybridge in a Time of Change.

Inspired by Frederic Edwin Church’s painting Niagara (1857) and Washington’s monumental war memorials, Solomon's installation 'explores the aspirations and struggles that lie at the heart of the American Dream', using images from Hollywood cinema, found footage, and documentary accounts of historical events.

American Falls: Phil Solomon will be open until July 18th.
