Chicago Filmmakers and Chicago Film Archives join forces in the presentation of DONNA ROSEBUD, a feature-length live action film made by animator JP Somersaulter in 1986. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker moderated by Kat Sachs of Cine-File.

The 5th Experimental Film Festival Process will take place from 17 to 21 May in Riga, Latvia. Organized by the artist-run film lab Baltic Analog Lab, the festival is dedicated to the diverse analog cinema practices employed by adventurous audiovisual artists from around the world. The programme comprises film screenings, live performances, installations, talks, and, of course, parties.

An anti-salon for experimental film and video? Yes, the VIDEOAKTION, organised by attaque(e)r le visible, wants to provide such a place in Berlin. Twice a year, it gives the opportunity to informally and non-competitively present new experiments with moving images and to put them up for discussion. The focus is on coming together, exchange, and, of course, on the question of the current condition of the experiment today and the possibilities of cinematic or media interventions in the visible.

In a career that spanned the American experimental film world from New York City to San Francisco, filmmaker Warren Sonbert (1947–1995) was driven by the belief that “independent film...is the only avenue for those who want to take risks and satisfy their own self-imposed demands.” This retrospective of a seminal figure in experimental film encompasses Sonbert’s complete body of work from its beginning in 1966.
