The title of this 6th MalatestaShort Film Festival, an international festival of short films, is “cinema bazàr”. It gives us the feeling of a community that needs to find itself, and reminds us of the wonders of the unexpected, like when you are browsing a market stall for something different, something new, something that you will take with you into your daily life.

Experiments in Cinema is an annual international festival celebrating current trends and history of international cinematic experimentation. Experiments in Cinema is a non-competitive festival produced by Basement Films and based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This year we celebrate our 17th festival and our 3rd virtual festival. We are thrilled to share the festival in full and free of charge to everyone in the international community in this virtual format, and we look forward to welcoming you all back to the meat space of the Guild Cinema in Albuquerque in 2023.

Lake Ivan Film Journal is a collection of reviews and essays about experimental film, both recent and historical. Some posts are shorter, descriptive pieces. Many are longer essays, in which I dig into individual works, and examine what’s going on inside of them.
