Film manipulates textures of the ordinary, and magic is conjured in its folds. The shorts in Something Spilled study the cracks where imaginary leaks into real: questions of memory, certainty, and liminality arise. Curated by Emma Dollery and Mary Rose McClain, the program features 8 films by an eclectic group of local and international filmmakers whose take on the theme, differing widely in aesthetic mode, is a testament to an abundance of mysterious callings.
Microscope is very pleased to present a solo screening of film and video works by New York-based artist Anto(n) Astudillo. The screening will take place both in person and online, with a Q&A with the artist following the screening.
In the seven works on the program, Astudillo considers the effects of two concurrent personal transitions: the gender affirming process of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and their experience as a US immigrant from Chile during the past twelve years.
The international competition at Alternative Film Video features recent moving image works that challenge the status quo of aesthetics and politics in contemporary film and video practices.
On April 19th 2024, R(a/u)pture presents a unique program in the former slaughterhouse of Hasselt. For the first time in history, the old factory hall serves as a cinematic chamber, welcoming seven alternative works from distinct regions around the world.
