Sonic Cinema presents Rainer Kohlberger’s Answering the Sun – a maximal, stroboscopic colour odyssey to the limits of human perception. Riffing on the optical phenomenon that occurs when staring at the sun, Kohlberger’s first feature adeptly modernises avant-garde cinema’s long tradition of visual music and flicker in a 60-minute bombardment of coloured fields, Op art geometry, hallucinatory passages, and a wall of sound.
A rare opportunity to meet and see the work of Belgian artist Els Van Riel. Els will screen her 16mm films Gradual Speed, and Fugue, a Light's Travelogue. There will also be a conversation between Els and BEEF members.
In the fourteenth edition of S8 Mostra de Cinema Periférico, which will be held from May 26 to June 4, more than 180 pieces from a dozen countries will be screened.One of the main figures in the new edition will be Anthony McCall, known worldwide for his “solid light” works, a series that he began in the 1970s with his famous Line Describing a Cone.

Chicago Filmmakers and Chicago Film Archives join forces in the presentation of DONNA ROSEBUD, a feature-length live action film made by animator JP Somersaulter in 1986. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker moderated by Kat Sachs of Cine-File.
Étienne O'Leary was an experimental filmmaker, composer and painter from Quebec born on October 24, 1944 in Montreal and died on October 17, 2011 in the same city.He is a key figure in the French underground cinema of the 1960s.
