Theaterlab Presents Haptic Drift x Public Visuals, two evenings of live sonic and visual explorations curated by Testu Collective and Toru Izumida. Each night, a different lineup of international artists from Japan, South & North America will create sound and visuals live, using technologies that allow the digital and the organic to coexist. The August 25th artist lineup features Masayuki Azegami, Andy Guti (P-1), Atsushi, Jenn Grossman, Toru Izumida and Amma Ateria. The August 26th artist lineup features Testu Collective, Sho Tokura, Hernan Roperto, MA, Fernando Molina, and Chloe Alexandra Thompson. Generative code art, modular synth music, live field recordings and led animation machines are among the unique modes of technology used by each artist to explore patterns in nature, organic lifeforms, physics and brainwaves. Performances will take place at Theaterlab (357 W 36th St, 3rd floor, NYC, 10018) on Friday, August 25th and Saturday, August 26; doors open at 7pm and performances run 7:30pm to 10pm.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at https://web.ovationtix.com/trs/pr/1172578.

Public Visuals was originally conceived by Toru Izumida in 2019 as a night of sound and visual explorations in electronic music and video art in Brooklyn. Izumida built a community of artists before leaving for Tokyo during Covid 19. Haptic Drift x Public Visuals is a reunion of artists curated by Toru and Testu Collective, performing together for the first time in NYC since the pandemic.

Theaterlab has served as a hub for experimental performing arts in Midtown since 2013, and created programming for New York's innovative artists since 2007. Our signature white box studios offer a clean and well-kept creative canvas for new work that subverts expectations and defies categorization. Theaterlab’s new work programming, focused on cross-disciplinary experimentation, includes- Hotel New Work, a short term residency for ensemble-driven works; [im]permanence, connecting the theater to the street through live-action painting; Mothers, Myths, Monsters, presenting short works-in-progress; Voices Inside, a writing and theater program for incarcerated writers; Round the Block!, bringing together performance venues and businesses throughout the Garment District; and Celebrate the Artist, introducing New York audiences to International artists. Theaterlab’s mission is to serve a diverse population of artists and audiences by producing energetic and experimental art in the Garment District that interrogates the nature of live performance.
