This selection of extremely rare short films, including Il Mostro Verde, which features Merz’s Living Sculpture, reveals the exciting, eclectic collaborations among painters, poets, directors, and theater actors in 1960s Italy. Films by Tonino De Bernardi and Paolo Menzio and artists such as Ugo Nespolo and Luca Maria Patella highlight an adventurous underground cinema influenced by Arte Povera in Turin, the experimental films of Cooperative Cinema Indipendente in Rome, and the American avant-garde and independent film scene.
Cosmic Rays screens non-commercial short films that broaden the idea of film as art. We are looking for work that experiments with the formal possibilities of film and video; that explores hybrid forms and the hard-to-describe spaces between filmmaking modes and genres; that speaks with a personal or poetic voice, or explores novel ways of telling stories; that eschews convention and commerce; and that expands our sense of what film is and what it can be.
El (S8) Mostra Internacional de Cinema Periférico regresará a A Coruña del 31 de mayo al 4 de junio para celebrar un aniversario especial -‐su 8ª edición-‐ con una ambiciosa programación. La nueva edición, bajo el título de Objetos y apariciones, estrá inspirada por el foundfootage o “metraje encontrado” bajo la figura del artista origen de dicho proceso cinematográfico, Joseph Cornell. El legado del creador multidisciplinar y surrealista norteamericano ha guiado la elaboración del cartel oficial, donde, imitando una suerte de caja de Cornell, se recoge el espíritu de la apropiación para reflejar toda su filosofía. Junto a él, el (S8) presentará los trabajos de dos de los representantes más destacados del found footage en la actualidad: Cécile Fontaine y Luther Price. Además, el programa Found Sounds, comisariado por Mónica Savirón, girará en torno a la obra de la holandesa Barbara Meter.

Reflecting on the concept of the haptic proximity of contemporary media, film is a phallic conquerer that, folding in on itself, now flaccid deus ex machina, observes itself from the inside like a lysergic membrane that slowly founders between the folds of its own material.

Sign on / Sign off is a live streaming event of artist made "television" taking place at the Merz Akademie in Stuttgart, Germany on June 30, 2017. The 24 hour “television network” will combine live performance, with remote broadcast and pre-recorded moving image content. Sign on / Sign offwill re-interpret the images of our collective identities through the lens of conventional media, using the structures of a full commercial broadcasting day as a platform for creative production and exchange.
