Since at least the 1940s, the San Francisco Bay Area has been one of the world’s epicenters of personally expressive filmmaking and community-focused non-mainstream film culture. At the close of a tumultuous and even traumatic year, Cinematheque culminates its 2020 exhibitions withCommingled Containers: Echoes from a Bay, two guest-curated programs highlighting recent works by Bay Area filmmakers and celebrating the continuously-renewing, ever-evolving traditions of the region’s vibrant artist communities.

Just published! Moving Image Artists Journal issue 3 is now available to read online.
This issue is entirely dedicated to an exquisite corpse film initiated by artist Sapphire Goss during the first lockdown and made in collaboration with 23 artists and filmmakers from around the world.
In this time of waiting and distance, VISIONS has teamed up with various local collaborators to put a select few videos by artists online and pair them with texts by local writers.

Synesthesia will present live electronic and experimental music performances with multi-projection "that wild mercury sound on the ghost frequency" on the rooftop. We will build an Unknown Dome and performance in and around the dome.
Currently, Synesthesia presents Walid Shaharul's solo exhibition, "Safe Place" curated by roosi at our gallery space (Every 12 people can get inside of gallery with masks)

FALL 2020 FILM, VIDEO and INTERACTIVE ART WORKSHOPS
As we continue to work through these difficult and unpredictable times, we will be hosting our workshops differently, pivoting to an on-line delivery (Zoom) for our theory based workshops, with the same roster of experienced industry instructors. We are pleased to still be able to offer these workshops for our members and the film community as a whole.
