Grey Moth x T A P E Non-fiction Film Fund

South London-based production company Grey Moth in collaboration with T A P E Collective is excited to launch the non-narrative / non-fiction film fund, an initiative that provides £5,000 of funding towards documentary projects for filmmakers of all experience levels.

Applications open on Tuesday 20th June at grey-moth.com/originals

In order to be eligible, the £5,000 funding must cover the full budget of the film. Grey Moth will provide mentorship, facilities & production support to the winning team. In addition, T A P E Collective will collaborate on selecting the winner and provide a bespoke festival strategy, and Shoot Blue rental house will be providing a camera and lighting package to the winningfilmmakers up to a value of £2,500.

Grey Moth will only consider films 5-10 minutes long that challenge the conventional documentary format. Selections will be made based on originality and creative flair. Applicationsclose on 19th of July 2023 and the winner will be announced on 28th August 2023.

Eligibility

In order to apply your team must fit the following:

  • You must be living in the UK 
  • You must be over 16 years old
  • Any level of filmmaking experience is welcome
  • Project in pre-production, we don't offer this as finishing funding

Grey Moth is committed to building a fairer, kinder, and better creative industry than the existing one. The non-narrative/non-fiction film fund hopes to support Documentary filmmakersnavigating their way into industry. Grey Moth hopes this initiative will help broaden and bolster the filmmaking community as a whole. The aim of the fund is to grow a network of creatives whilst building a community around our studio, and to create routes into the industry for underrepresented groups.

Since the launch in 2020 we’ve completed six short films which are currently on the festival circuit. Another eight short films are currently in post-production and we’re excited to share them at festivals soon.” says Archie Sinclair, Director.

GREY MOTH:Grey Moth is a film studio bridging the gap between grassroots filmmaking and commercial production, based in South East London. They are a dedicated team with solid experienceacross commercial video production, independent filmmaking, music videos, artist films, social media advertising, and more. Since 2013 they’ve delivered meaningful content to clients from a diverse range of industries including the educational sector, media, esports, luxury retail, and the arts. Clients include BBC, Chanel, Universal Music, Asics, University of the Arts London and the Royal Horticultural Society. In 2020 Grey Moth Originals was launched, an initiative where the company’s profits are invested directly in emerging talent, original ideas and the filmmaking community.

T A P E COLLECTIVE:Founded by Isra Al Kassi and Angela Moneke in 2015 to curate screening events which respond to the lack of representation on screen – T A P E ’s mission remains to support under-served titles, and barriers to accessing cinema and filmmaking with a focus on representation, identity and heritage with the aim to find new audiences, create conversations and collaborations across the creative sector.

SHOOT BLUE:Shoot Blue is an independent camera and lighting equipment rental house based in London, UK. We supply cutting-edge creative tools to cinematographers, filmmakers and digital content producers.
