The Future is Memory | CALL FOR FILMS 10 July 2023 - 31 August 2023

The 16th edition of Archivio Aperto is dedicated to the future of memory: which forms narrate the past, redefine it, or even forget it? What images to remember together, to perform the collective act of (re)creating the world? The Future is Memory.

This call is open to filmmakers, directors and artists. We are looking for works in any form and genre — documentary, experimental, video-essay, crossing over into fiction and animated cinema — in any format, medium and length. The selection will focus on memory and the archive through the reuse of images and research that narrates the interweaving of individual stories and public history, bringing to light forgotten and rediscovered subjectivities and communities.

ARCHIVIO APERTO | about Archivio Aperto is the festival dedicated to the rediscovery of small-gauge film heritage — private, amateur, experimental, artist’s cinema — organised by the Fondazione Home Movies – Archivio Nazionale del Film di Famiglia.

Now in its 16th edition, since 2022 the festival has a competitive section dedicated to documentary and experimental works that focus on the reuse of private archives and memories. In addition, Archivio Aperto is based on a wide-ranging programme of exhibitions, meetings, workshops, live performances, and installations facing the topics of memory, micro-history, autobiographical narration, family and small communities archives, where the interweaving of individual stories and public history is most dense.

A true laboratory of archives on the move, Archivio Aperto is the most important appointment in Italy for experience, learn and reflect on the public use of private memories.
