To mark the recent publication of Collected Stories, we're delighted to welcome Ben Rivers to introduce a selection of his short films all presented on 16mm. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with Rivers, hosted by Fireflies Press editor Giovanni Marchini Camia.
The Oak Cliff Film Festival was established in 2012 as a regional film festival in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, Texas. The festival has received national acclaim from prominent sources including The New York Times, Filmmaker Magazine, and Moviemaker Magazine, as a festival that aims to showcase brave and independent filmmaking of all stripes in an atmosphere that encourages and fosters filmmaking in Dallas and beyond.
Amy Halpern (1953-2022) occupies a singular place in the history of American experimental cinema. She was a key figure who took part in many legendary film shoots and artistic projects, a tireless organizer who co-founded or directed several filmmakers’ associations, and, at the same time, an original and prolific filmmaker in her own right, whose works remained, until very recently, in the shadow of her contemporaries.
Esteemed Comrades, ZDB (Lisbon) and 99 Canal (NY) proudly present Animal Farm by João Maria Gusmão, his first solo exhibition in New York following nearly two decades of collaborative endeavours with Pedro Paiva. The exhibition will first be shown at the non-profit artist-run space 99 Canal – on view from 2 February to 3 March 2024, Tuesday to Sunday, 4 pm to 10 pm – followed by a second iteration at the end of May at ZDB Lisbon. Animal Farm is curated by Marco Bene.

La intimidad, los afectos y los intercambios creativos entre Tom Chomont y Robert Beavers quedan materializados en estas películas en las que ambos cineastas desarrollan paralelamente la posibilidad de un cine lírico en la frontera entre el retrato y el drama psicológico, el erotismo y la estilización formal. Sus frenéticas meditaciones nos ofrecen visiones complementarias de la escisión del sujeto y la exploración de la sexualidad.
En la Ciudad de México: Copias prístinas de 16mm de cuatro películas del icónico cineasta experimental Saul Levine, de su colección personal, presentadas por John Quackenbush, ex alumno de Levine y antiguo cácaro (proyeccionista) del legendario Massart Film Society.
