No Name Cinema

No Name is a microcinema, gallery and community gathering space in Santa Fe, New Mexico that exists as a no-profit, non-business, anti-capitalist operation. NNC was founded by Justin Clifford Rhody and is co-operated by Abigail Smith. We focus on showcasing international and local experimental, avant-garde and repertory films, videos and visual art. Our programming mission is to select works that use the filmic medium as an art form rather than passive entertainment, to encourage an open dialogue within the community and to offer a platform for transgressive and marginalized voices and perspectives. Through dedication and focus we are working to assist an artistic community in New Mexico that exists outside of the museums, beyond the schlock of Hollywood and is truly a people’s cinema.

    A benefit screening with all proceeds collected at the door going to the Palestinian Children's Relief Fund! Three experimental and radical classics of Palestinian Cinema: They Do Not Exist (directed by Mustafa Abu Ali, 1974, 25 min), Palestinian Identity (directed by Kassem Hawal, 1984, 38 min),  and the avant-garde masterpiece A Hundred Faces for a Single Day (directed by Christian Ghazi, 1971, 64 min).

  • The films of Craig Baldwin

    For nearly 50 years, the Bay Area filmmaker and curator Craig Baldwin has been an inspiring figure in contemporary media arts. His acerbic, densely-packed found footage films have traveled the globe, encouraging scores of nascent collage-essayists, culture jammers, and mockumentarians to action. A welcoming presence and steadfast fixture of San Francisco’s Mission District, Baldwin has been holding it down at 992 Valencia Street for decades, in defiance of sweeping gentrification, presenting his Other Cinema microcinema screenings in its street-level storefront theater while maintaining his legendary film archive/hoarder cave/work studio in the building’s basement. Ever seeking to revise and hybridize existing modes and genres, and invent and name new ones, Baldwin’s filmmaking amalgamates cinephilic literacy and voraciousness, a sharp understanding of political and cultural history, and a sly critical polemics.
