Being located in the “antechamber of language, even of consciousness,” her newly restored films occupy a state of in-betweenness that cannot be easily interpreted nor approached verbally. Their associative stream of images and sounds acts as a deliberation on their sensuality. In a dream-like density and strange suspension of time, O.’s films induce a heightened sense of perception between hypnosis and clarity

Close-Up is thrilled to present a rare programme of experimental films by the German artist Dore O. which occupy a state in-between opaqueness and translucency, hypnosis and clarity. The programme has been selected by Berlin-based archivist and scholar Masha Matzke, who will also introduce the screening.

La versatilidad instrumental de Anthony Moore le sitúa entre los contextos de la vanguardia más minimalista y los de la música popular más progresiva. Werner Nekes, Dore O. y Klaus Wyborny son tres de los cineastas alemanes con los que colaboró creando músicas para sus filmaciones. Las tres piezas musicales que se pueden escuchar en esta sesión mantienen cadencias profundamente repetitivas, pausadas, extáticas e hipnóticas.

In the summer of 1968 Werner Nekes and Klaus Wyborny opened a cinema in Hamburg. It was located in a basement in Brüderstraße, furnished with mattrasses and benches. There they showed their films. Metropolis is proud to present two authentic programs of films that were actually shown there in 1968.
