Gwendolyn Audrey Foster: Queer Feminist Punk Experimental Films [1]
Filmhuis Cavia (in Amsterdam) presents:
"Gwendolyn Foster: Queer Feminist Punk Experimental Films."
As a bisexual queer eco-feminist, Gwendolyn Audrey Foster works in the tradition of the Letterists, Guy Debord, the Situationists, and others who championed détournement - radically hijacking commercial images and refashioning them into subversive political films. Foster combines a feminist punk aesthetic with Surrealist techniques such as chance editing (automatism) and détournement, evoking the ethereal and liminal spaces of Luis Buñuel and André Breton, and the wild queer Dada poetry of Elsa Von Freytag-Loringhoven. Inspired by bisexual and queer experimental filmmakers such as Maya Deren, Barbara Hammer, and Derek Jarman, Foster's films have been described as bold, hypnotic, surreal, and enigmatic. Foster will present, in person, her short experimental films such as The Prisoner, Desire Market, Delta of Venus, Bisexual Materialist Ragtime Party, as well as new, previously unscreened work.
Foster's experimental films have been screened at Outfest, Nederlands Filmmuseum, Rice Museum, Collective for Living Cinema, Swedish Cinemateket, National Museum of Women in the Arts, DC, Films de Femmes, Créteil, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Forum Yokohama, Anthology Film Archives, Museum of the Future, Berlin, BWA Katowice, Studio 44 Stockholm, and many venues around the world.

Filmhuis Cavia [4]
Filmhuis Cavia is a counterculture cinema in Amsterdam, founded in 1983 by a squatters movement, which programs films you aren't likely to see anywhere else. It is run entirely by volunteers and our programmers work hard to find you brilliant movies and documentaries, particularly by female directors, from outside of the West or 35mm. Our cozy cinema has just 40 chairs, but our bar is fun and our prices are friendly so don't be shy about checking us out!
