Video Art Miden is once again getting ready to “flood” Kalamata (Greece) with contemporary video art, in a 4-day screening event, from July 6 to 9, 2023, activating a different part of the city each day. Audiovisual and artistic experimentation, rhythm, imagination, color, poetry, video dance, performance, animation, artificial intelligence, personal narratives, contemporary social-political-existential reflections and images from the future meet in a rich international program, which traces the trends of our time on a global level, through the work of established as well as emerging young artists.

Close-Up pays tribute to Kenneth Anger with a screening of the Magick Lantern Cycle. Cinematic magician, legendary provocateur, author of the infamous Hollywood Babylon book, Kenneth Anger was a unique figure in post-war American culture. His iconic short films are characterised by a mystical-symbolic visual language and phantasmagorical-sensual opulence that underscores the medium’s transgressive potential. Anger’s work fundamentally shaped the aesthetics of 1960s and 1970s subcultures, the visual lexicon of pop and music videos and queer iconography.
Chris H Lynn will present a collection of new super 8 films from his Journal of Drifting Hours series on 7/1/23 at UNZA Lab.

Wenhua Shi pursues a poetic approach to moving image making, and investigates conceptual depth in film, video, interactive installations and sound sculptures. His work has been presented at museums, galleries, and film festivals, including International Film Festival Rotterdam, European Media Art Festival, Athens Film and Video Festival, Ann Arbor Film Festival, Pacific Film Archive, West Bund 2013: a Biennale of Architecture and Contemporary art, Shanghai, Shenzhen & Hong Kong Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism, and the Arsenale of Venice in Italy.
