  • Los Angeles Filmforum presents Uranium Hex: The Nuclear Films of Sandra Lahire

Presented for the first time in Los Angeles, URANIUM HEX: THE NUCLEAR FILMS OF SANDRA LAHIRE introduces four important works by the British experimental feminist filmmaker exploring the feminist anti-nuclear, anti-war movement of the 1980's alongside deeply personal narratives of sickness, contamination and corporeal vulnerability of both the self and land.
The program will be introduced by archivist and programmer Charlotte Procter (London, UK) with artist P. Staff (Los Angeles, USA).

  • DIM Cinema: Meriem Bennani

This astonishing, wildly inventive trio of recent videos by Meriem Bennani begins with the tender, funny, and infinitely relatable 2 Lizards (2020). A collaboration with Orian Barki, the work is composed of eight “episodes” that were posted by the artists on Instagram at the onset of the pandemic, a chronicle, spoken through lizardy avatars, of their disrupted lives. Seamlessly combining 3D animation with footage shot around New York City—including an eerily empty Times Square—it captures the range of emotions particular to the early months of lockdown.

  • If I Were Any Further Away I’d Be Closer to Home: A collection of films by Rajee Samarasinghe

We are thrilled to present the first solo show of films by Rajee Samarasinghe in Los Angeles. Between the spaces and places of Sri Lanka and Los Angeles, Samarasinghe’s body of films stunningly unfold the liminal space between the mystery of filmmaking and the magic of being while at the same time, in his words, “often navigate the terrain of memory, migration, and impermanence.” Join us after the films for a conversation between Samarasinghe and fellow filmmaker Mike Stoltz. The screening will be followed by a reception on the outdoor patio with Sri Lankan snacks and Tarot card readings by Delini Malka Samarasinghe, who appears in the films and, is the filmmaker's sister.
