    The Slow Short Film Festival celebrates works that employ an aesthetic tendency grown conspicuous in the past three decades of world art cinema. The aesthetics of ‘slow cinema’ can be broadly characterised by a combination of long takes and long shots, with a focus on non-professional actors and an emphasis on everyday activities. If contemporary culture is governed by speed and distraction, these films open up time for stillness and contemplation.

WNDX pays special attention to the most innovative and ground-breaking works created by moving image artists. In the past, WNDX has featured spotlights on Crispin Glover, Martha Colburn, Amy Lockhart, Richard Tuohy, Guy Maddin, Joyce Wieland, George Kuchar, Steve Reinke, Barbara Sternberg, Phil Hoffman, John Price and Michael Snow, a well as the work of the Loop Collective.

  • Laterale Film Festival in Rome

    Laterale is an international non competitive festival of cinematic art, completely self-financed, that takes place every year in June in Cosenza (Italy). The aim of the Festival is to enhance audio-visual innovative works and to be a place of meeting and discovery in which it is possible to show what usually is neglected or rejected because of the distance from the conventional way to do and to interpret the Cinema, by reserving particular attention will to young and independent filmmakers.

    Dirk de Bruyn ha estado haciendo cine durante más de 35 años: un trabajo principalmente manual, de animación directa; también hace performances en vivo con proyecciones múltiples de sus películas en una modalidad corpórea de cine expandido. Su obra es reconocida por su estructura intrincada y sugestiva de capas de imagen y sonido, y el uso de áreas de color suntuosas y resplandecientes. Ha recibido ayudas para producir algunas de sus películas, pero la mayor parte de su obra se caracteriza por mantener un espíritu independiente, con financiación propia.

  • Walden presents: Sami van Ingen

    Walden in collaboration with the Finnish Institute in Sweden welcomes Finnish filmmaker Sami van Ingen. Van Ingen mostly works with film, video and installations. Whether it is in the form of large, spatial arrangements for two modified – or pimped as he himself expressed it – 35mm-projectors or films projected in 35mm CinemaScope, or smaller formats like Super-8, 8mm or 16 mm, his activities is characterized by an intense, exploratory and yet playful work with the hands.

  • The Moving Image Catalog / Introducing: Mauro Santini

    This week, The Moving Image Catalog will present three short pieces by Italian artist Mauro Santini, who has been forging his highly diaristic body of work for almost two decades now. His works have been screened at Locarno Film Festival, Venice Film Festival, Torino Film Festival (where he won the Italian competition prize in 2002 with 'Da lontano'), Internationale Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen, Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin, Doclisboa, Festival des Cinémas Différents de Paris and Pesaro Film Festival.

    Streams and Channels to host its inaugural video art screening.

    On February 21st at 6 P.M., the Westchester Community College Center for Digital Art in Peekskill, NY will host the inaugural video art screening of Streams and Channels. The screening is a survey of emerging and established video artists.
