The Great Wall of Oakland and Mobile Arts Platform (MAP) are partnering on “Off the Wall,” a mobile video screening and interactive art-making project that travels throughout Oakland exploring economic and cultural changes happening in this rapidly evolving city. With rents skyrocketing, new businesses and startups moving in, and many long-time residents being displaced, we hope to provide a platform to map and archive this social change through free video screenings featuring films by local artists exploring these themes, as well as interactive art projects that will invite participants to share and archive their community experience. These events will be free of charge to the public.

We are currently accepting submissions of video content by local (Oakland-based) artists to be screened at our mobile sites and on our 100x100 foot urban projection space in Downtown Oakland. We are specifically looking for works rooted in place and the history of Oakland. Topics addressed could be related to displacement, space, and gentrification, with a particular emphasis on the neighborhoods in West and East Oakland.

Works will be reviewed by our curatorial committee, and selected entrants will be notified in early 2017.
