On February 19 and 20, Dmitry Frolov's retrospective will take place in St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Izhevsk, Irkutsk and Tyumen, opening a large cycle of screenings of unknown parallel cinema.

A big conversation between Ira Dmitrieva and Gleb Segeda with a director who embodied the ideas and dreams of poets, expressionists, symbolists, mystics and futurists on Soviet film — https://seance.ru/articles/dmitry-frolov

Almost all screenings are free. Links to tickets in the liner to the text on the website.

The director's lens is aimed deep into time at the deceptive shadows of the Silver Age and surreal images of the pre-revolutionary years, embodying on Soviet film the ideas and dreams of poets, expressionists, symbolists, mystics and futurists. Dmitry Frolov's experimental and absurdist cinematography reflected what cinema aspired to at its inception: to combine theater, literature, music and painting. Resurrected and brought to its climax, modernity in these films, as if in a camera obscura, reflected the key moments of the era of the collapse of the Soviet Union.

As part of the retrospective, "Clowning" will be presented - an insanely decadent tragicomedy with elements of eroticism recreating the realities of the 1930s. February marks the 80th anniversary of the death of Daniil Kharms, and the show dedicated to the anniversary plunges into the atmosphere of the life-making classic of the absurd.

The underground experiments of the St. Petersburg and Moscow art underground during the Perestroika turned the visual canons of Soviet culture upside down, forever changing the matrix of Russian cinema. The commonwealth of film clubs from several cities will show and tell about this amazing, but still criminally little-known direction of domestic cinema. And after the show, the audience will be able to ask the directors questions.

The first screenings of Dmitry Frolov's films will take place this weekend:
