Migrer le musée | Nayla Dabaji 2021 | HD | 14 mins A stroll/reverie in the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts becomes a pretext for reflection on a nameless new era. An artist is asleep at her desk, surrounded by her tools. Birds, drawings, landscapes and artworks from the museum’s collection migrate through stories, close and afar, in an attempt to reconcile her with her senses. A video piece created during the artist residency Empreintes at the Museum of Fine Arts of Montreal in 2020; a residency organized and supported by the Museum and by the Conseil des arts de Montréal.

This video collects the leaking Madonna, her images of sexuality and religion, and ultimately presents a more ambiguous product.

Nayla Dabaji Beirut-born artist Nayla Dabaji currently lives and works in Tiohtiá:ke/Montreal. She studied fine arts in Lebanon, media arts in Quebec and is currently studying herbalism. Her projects combine a variety of practices, ranging from photography, drawing and video art to art intervention and writing. Her video work is distributed by Videographe in Montreal. In 2020, she was the winner of the Impressions residency at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Her recent work has been presented at the MAI gallery (Montreal arts interculturels, 2022), at Vaste et Vague (Rencontres internationales de la photographie en Gaspésie, 2021), l’Imagier Art Center (Gatineau, 2019), Dazibao (dv-vd, Montreal, 2017) and at several festivals – including: the international Festival of Films on Art (FIFA) (Montreal, 2022, 2017), les Percéides (Percé, 2021, 2018), le Festival de la poésie de Montréal (2020), Les Instants Vidéo (Marseille, 2019, 2015, 2014), the Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma (35th edition, Montreal, 2015) and Stuttgarter Filmwinter (Stuttgart, 2015). Her collaborative projects have also been shown in various galleries, institutions and art spaces – such as: Espace Libre (Biel, 2016), Vu Photo (Quebec City, 2013), Gertrude Contemporary (Melbourne, 2012), Artsonje Center (Seoul, 2011), Townhouse Gallery (Cairo, 2009).
Kim Kielhofner Kim Kielhofner works in video, drawing, and collage. She is interested in how we understand narratives – personal and historic – and how we place ourselves into them. Her process is based on interests in layered narrative, cinema, and literature through which she has developed an archive of images and ideas. Her work has been presented in solo shows at Dazibao (Montréal, CA), LUX (London, UK), VOX (Montréal, CA), Sporobole (Sherbrooke, CA) and k48 (Vienna, AT). Her work has also been shown widely in group exhibitions and screenings including Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival, WRO Biennale, Oberhausen International Short Film Festival, and Bienal de la Imagen en Movimiento, Buenos Aires. She has been an artist in residence at KulturKontakt (Vienna, AT), Aberystwyth Arts Centre (UK), The Red Mansion Foundation (Beijing, CN), and International Studio and Curatorial Program (Brooklyn, US) Lyndsie Alguire Lyndsie Alguire is an audiovisual artist based in Montreal. Using found sounds and ambient light, her work makes the ethereal world tangible in bittersweet music and photos. The through-lines in Lyndsie’s work are stillness, vulnerability, and longing. Growing up on classical piano training, she went on to develop a fascination with audio engineering and film photography, dovetailing these mediums into her craft. Art became a means of making contact, from the bedroom to an elastic artistic community. Embracing both stillness and spontaneity, her improvisatory work creates space for mindfulness. Lyndsie has had the pleasure of performing at events for Mutek, Pop Montreal, Never Apart, and Laurence Philomene. She won Best Original Score at the 2017 Feel the Reel International Film Festival for “Be My First”.
Nicoles Gingras Nicole Gingras is a curator, author and researcher who works independently as well as with museums, galleries, artist-run centres and festivals. Her interest in exploratory practices in film and video along with visual arts, sound art and kinetic art is reflected in various projects produced in national and international contexts: major exhibitions and programming, editorship of singular publications, monographs, artist’s books, analytical texts, and interviews. Her research explores creative processes and the notions of time, listening and traces.
