This month, Hambre's Forum section is highlighting Stefano Miraglia's new work, Ramusiana.

An abstract, black & white silent film, Ramusiana is an attempt at describing and finding again some parts of the world - explored, visited, documented, imagined. The project's title refers to geographer and civil servant of the Republic of Venice Giovanni Battista Ramusio (1485-1557). Between 1550 and 1559, together with editor Tommaso Giunti and his own son Paolo, Ramusio published a large collection of travel accounts, the Navigationi et viaggi which translates into “voyages and travels”. The subtitle of the film - Universale della parte del mondo nuovamente ritrovata (Universal map of the newly found part of the world) - is taken from a map featured in the third volume of the Navigationi et viaggi, published in Venice in 1556.

Stefano Miraglia is an Italian-Spanish artist based in France. Merging digital video, analog photographs, archival documents and autobiographical elements, his moving image work stands at the intersection between abstract art, experimental animation and diaristic cinema.
