Filmmaker Helga Fanderl was born in Ingolstadt and now lives in Berlin. From 1987 to 1992 she studied at the University of Fine Arts in Frankfurt am Main with Peter Kubelka and then at the Cooper Union School of Arts New York with Robert Breer. She presented her films, among others. at the International Short Film Festival in Oberhausen, they are among others represented in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in Frankfurt am Main and in the collection of the Center Pompidou in Paris. Plaster drawing, apple harvest, girl or carp floating in color - the titles from her work by Helga Fanderl, which has now grown to around 1,000 films, literally describe the respective motif, or rather: the event that she recorded with the handheld camera. She is concerned with shaping her perception of existing reality or her object, the figure at the moment of filming. The films are not reworked, but characterize the immediate and the direct of the shot at the moment of the action and the editing in the camera. The short sequences are created in a very physical way in a film language that can be compared to image conceptions and gestures in drawing and painting. Helga Fanderl presents her films herself in changing programs; the film projection directly in the auditorium, as the whirring of the screening apparatus, is part of the setting of the presentations: Original cinema.

For the exhibition, Helga Fanderl is putting together a program of 16mm blowups of her original Super 8 films, which will be presented daily from 3 p.m. from Tuesday to Sunday.

The Kunsthalle Lingen thanks the OLB Foundation for the generous support of the exhibition.
