Larry Gottheim is a key figure in the history and development of American avant-garde cinema through the 1970s and 1980s. His early "minimal" films, such as FOG LINE, are well-known and have been widely shown at museums in the U.S. and Europe. His recent films have played in Europe and at the EXis festival in Seoul. Gottheim also founded the celebrated Cinema Department at Binghamton University, where he worked until 1998.

Programme:- Chants And Dances For Hand (1991-2017), 40 minutes, digital, sync sound. The video material was shot in Haiti many years earlier and includes Vodou ceremonies and a violent uprising, but focuses upon the ceremonies of daily life and cinema spectating. Gottheim's interest in ceremonies throughout his films led him to participate in Haitian Vodou. The material includes many motifs and themes that continued throughout his body of work. - Knot/Not (2019). 22 minutes, digital. Starting with a work of wall art, it leads to memories of WWII, music, painting and cinema. A central figure is the German conductor Wilhelm Furtwängler. It is a knot made up of many threads  within itself and also refers to previous films and issues. It says “No!” to the denial of life’s rich complexities, to death.
