A night of deep sound, projections and installations including a rare Bristol show for PAN Records/D&M Berlin visionary Rashad Becker, new works for multiple 16mm loops, reel to reel and voice by Louisa Fairclough, and improvised rhythm pressure and live projections from Kinlaw & BDS.

Rashad Becker composes non-euclidian synthesiser trips, multilayered narratives populated by an ensemble of sonic entities, cartoon requiems from dreams and fertility dances from another dimension. It’s a delight to welcome him back to Bristol for the first time since performing solo and manning the sound desk all weekend at the legendary Schimpfluch Extreme Rituals weekend at the Arnolfini five years ago. His recent cycle Traditional Music Of Notional Species has been released across two volumes on PAN records and was described as “one of the most fantastic, imaginative records of this century so far” (Boomkat). Rashad also collaborates with such people as Eli Keszler, Moritz von Oswald, Okkyung Lee, Andre Vida, Ashley Paul, and Valerio Tricoli, and over many year has brought his mastering seal to a slew of releases via D&M Berlin. “Probably the closest thing we currently have to a disturbing glimpse through a rupture in the fabric of reality. Cherish it appropriately” (Brainwashed)

Louisa Fairclough presents new work devised with composer Richard Glover: Performed by Samuel Middleton and George McKenzie, A Rose is an accumulating resonant loop for voice and reel-to-reel player exploring the sonorous qualities of language and the logic/illogic of dreams streamed into the daylight hours. A founder member of BEEF, Louisa’s latest solo exhibition opens at Danielle Arnaud gallery in November.

Kinlaw and Bristol Diving School reprise their collaboration that recently pummelled the BEEF stage at Supernormal festival. The compelling sound of Hamish Trevis aka Kinlaw uses an ethereal blend of black magic, country air and a vague memory of R&B from the mid 90s to scintillate a mystical atmosphere, distorted surfaces, textural depths of sound. Here he’ll be accompanying live visual improvisations from the visual artist collective Bristol Diving School archive (2009- 2015).
