    Brighton Cinecity and Fabrica Gallery host I am Half Sick of Shadows
    A Dirge for Ruins Cities in the voice of Earth

    A cinematic ceremony composed in four acts based on Edgar Allan Poe’s poem The Bells. The poetic gesture functions as a performed amulet for protection, fine-tunes perceptions of Earth and humankind’s disjointed and entangled processes. The film score is made by creating translations of marks found on used shooting targets.

    Experimental Film Society is pleased to announce the 2019 Luminous Void Experimental Film Festival (LVEFF). Ireland’s only festival wholly dedicated to experimental cinema has relocated to Cork for its second edition. This two-day event will take place in early December at Triskel Christchurch Cinema and The Guesthouse.

    Everyday experiences are the subject of filmmaker Theo Thiesmeier, also in his works with still photography. The Berlin artist studied with Peter Kubelka in Frankfurt and Robert Breer at Cooper Union, New York. For ten years, he was also part of the collective of curators of Filmsamstag in Berlin.

    dadaland collective: an international group of digital artists are exhibiting their work in Bega, Australia during November and December. The collective came together in 2018 through Facebook groups to be part of The Wrong Biennale, a global event celebrating digital culture. The Wrong Biennale is the world's largest ever art event with nearly 2000 artists exhibiting online and at various locations around the globe.

    Phil Solomon (1954-2019) was an immensely passionate, inspiring, and kind-hearted figure to so many who encountered him and his work.  He inhabited this world as a generous friend, dedicated teacher and mentor, and as an artist of profound talent and feeling, whose films have inspired countless over the decades.  Los Angeles Filmforum has hosted Phil Solomon on a few occasions over the years, and he was always one of our favorite guests, presenting programs of great personality and memorable, lingering emotionality.  So although it is with great sadness that we now present

    In the mid 1960s, Edward Owens (1949­-2009) was an African­-American teenager attending the Art Institute of Chicago when Gregory Markopoulos arrived to found the school’s film program. Owens, who was then studying painting and sculpture, had already been making 8mm movies for a few years; impressed by the maturity of his work, Markopoulos encouraged him to move to New York. Over the next four years, Owens created a cluster of films that display an increasing mastery of form, inspired by Markopoulos’s style but transformed into something purely his own.

    An encounter between a film artist with two 16mm projectors, and two improvising musicians ; a violinist and a guitarist. The will to propose a frictional dialogue between sounds and images, without a hierarchy between both medium : sounds can go with the images, as well causing them, incite them, confront them… images can initiate the mouvements, as well as melt into them. The will to experiment the fragility of a communication between loops on celluloid, expressing itself in a mechanical time, and the organic expression of wooden vibrant instruments.
