Many of the earliest film experiments were later assigned to the horror genre. Horror nails the viewer to his seat, first by the temptation to look and then the relief that it was all fiction. No genre is so inherently parasitic as in the way it physically adheres to the viewer and inevitably makes him break into cold sweat. Not to mention the many parasites that powers the horror genre, from vampires to aliens to zombies. In this program, we look at how experimental filmmakers operate the horror genre, disassembling it to tinker again as if a new Frankenstein.

Presented by Evelyn Yard, VIDEO is a screening event highlighting the specific use of video by contemporary artists. The programme focuses less on the polished "moving-image" production, and more on experimentation and the use of more accessible popular video technologies. The screenings will highlight areas where video has been used for its specific characteristics, opening up the rising debate of medium specificity in and around ideas of post-media hybridisation.

An afternoon of screenings celebrating the first decade of LUX’s predecessor, the London Film-Makers’ Co-operative (1966–76). The LFMC was founded in October 1966 as a non-commercial distributor of avant-garde cinema. In contrast to similar groups that emerged around the world, it grew to incorporate a distribution service, cinema space and film laboratory. Within this unique facility, filmmakers were able to control every aspect of the creative process.
