Basement Films’ annual international film festival is proud to announce our call for submissions for Experiments in Cinema v12.3 (April 18-23, 2017). Our call for submissions is open from August 1 – November 1, 2016 so don’t wait! See www.experimentsincinema.org for our online submissions form.

Experiments in Cinema seeks new and old work that moves beyond traditional narrative, experimental, and documentary forms. We are interested in cinema that "steps on toes", questions authority, complicates traditions, experiments with form and content, and provides us with a view into the world that we have never seen before—challenge us (if you dare)!

Experiments in Cinema v11.4 Call for submissions

Basement Films’ annual international film festival is proud to announce our call for submissions for Experiments in Cinema v11.4 (April 6-10, 2016).

We are seeking new and old moving image art that will engage audiences with the magic and wonder that IS undependent cinema! Submissions might be (but are not limited to) essay films, dance films, film poems, structural films, post-structural films, underground films, abstract films, experimental narratives, experimental documentaries, video installations, transgressive films, portrait films, political films… Challenge us and we will be happy (if your creative output requires fancy press packages, agents to be contacted, high rental fees, a world premiere, descriptions like “…think The Little Mermaid on steroids…,” or character development that can only be understood in terms of a traditional narrative arc, you might do well to find a different festival to screen your film).

Film festivals have had varied and complex histories starting with Benito Mussolini's invention of the form in Venice in 1932. Since then (and too often) festivals are thought of in terms of Hollywood's film industry. This text is a celebration of all things un-dependently cinematic. The essays contained in this volume explore the cultural value of alternative film festivals from a wide range of perspectives and experiences.

Each year Experiments in Cinema brings the international community of cinematic un-dependents to Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA for a film festival that is designed to inspire a new generation of homegrown media activists to participate in shaping future trends of cultural representation. Experiments In Cinema seeks new and old work that moves beyond traditional narrative, experimental and documentary forms.

Experiments in Cinema v8.53 call for submissions

Basement Films’ annual celebration of moving image art is proud to announce our call for submissions for Experiments in Cinema v8.53 (April 15-20, 2013).

We are seeking works that MIGHT be categorized as un-dependent, counter current, personal, experimental, experimental/experimental, underground, experimental-underground, experimental documentary, film poems, essay films, dance films, structural films, non-structural films, non-non structural films, experimental structural films, video installations, live media performances, transgression films, etc, etc, etc…. I think you get the drift, baby! Challenge us and we will be happy.
