    Studio Two Three Call For Submissions: Films From The Attic

    The Studio Two Three Film + Video Series is currently seeking submissions from student and established artists that utilizes older film + video techniques, methods, and/ or formats. This could include shooting with DVs, VHS, older digital cameras, discontinued/expired film stocks, older style film cameras, optical printing, hand processing, camera less films, etc. etc. NO DSLR work or work done on a new style HD1080p digital camera (unless used sparingly or as a method for digital transfer). The films or videos must have been completed after 2004 and must be under 20 minutes in length. The work can be any genre (including found footage and animation) and can cover any subject matter.   • Winnipeg Underground Film Festival 2014

    The Winnipeg Underground Film Festival is an annual showcase for contemporary experimental film + video, presented by Open City Cinema in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The next festival will take place in June, 2014.

    WUFF is seeking new and engaging moving-image works that deviate from traditional cinematic forms, whatever that means. Stronger consideration will be given to works under 25 minutes, and to those completed in 2012 or later, but exceptions may be made in both cases. If you think your movie is suited for our show, we'd like to see it; if you aren't sure, please check out our 2013 program at www.winnipeguff.com

    In addition to this general call for entry, WUFF is also looking for films and videos shorter than 90 seconds in length for a special program focusing on ultra-short shorts. If you have a piece that fits this criteria, we want to see it.

    Celebrating the Soundtrack

     

    Cinesonika 4 will showcase international works of film and video with fascinating soundtracks, idiosyncratic sound design, eclectic scoring and innovative approaches to the sound-image relationship. The festival will be held at Vancity Theatre in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in conjunction with the academic conference on soundtrack studies at Simon Fraser University, July 8-10 2014.

    The festival is open to works in any format, including narrative, documentary, animation, experimental, and uncategorizable styles, with no minimum or maximum run time.   • 16th Paris Festival For Different And Experimental Cinema

    Call out for films and videos submissions for the upcoming 16th edition of Paris festival for different and experimental cinema. The festival is organised by Collectif Jeune Cinéma every year. CJC - Collectif Jeune Cinéma - was founded in 1971 following the New York Filmmakers's Cooperative footsteps. CJC is a cooperative for distribution with the aim to promote visual and cinematic experimental practices. Along with the organising of regular montly screenings, CJC is also the organiser of the Paris Festival for Different and Experimental Cinéma. Today, CJC's catalogue includes more than 1200 films from more than 300 filmmakers.

    This second year of ARKIPEL International Documentary & Experimental Film Festival will have a special theme, Electoral Risk, which is trying to see how cinematic reading of democracy, activism, politics, and civil power today. Changes in geo-economic and global geo-political issue have changed so much our view of everyday reality, which also have shifted the order of social life.

    Various socio-political events that show tendency of ‘civilian power’ occurred lately in the Middle Eastern countries, Asia, Europe, and Latin America, have questioned the meaning of democracy. The concept of democracy is adopted from the ‘West’, which means, the power is in the hands of people to determine all matters relating to the direction of their lives, in practice it is not going well. On the other hand, the development of technology, especially in media and information technology—cinema has become one of its parts, it has shown how the civil power ‘criticize’ state policies.

    The Milwaukee Underground Film Festival is a student-run, international film festival dedicated to showcasing contemporary works of film and video that innovate in form, technique, and content. This annual event exhibits independent films from around the world. We are interested in publicly presenting the best in artistic, experimental, original, humorous, political and visionary film and video work. The Milwaukee Underground Film Festival is a nationally recognized non-profit student organization at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

  • International Video Art Review THE 02 Competition

    The Competition for Young Artists is being held within the framework of the International Video Art Review THE 02. The review consists of 2 main parts, a special show of video works by invited artists and a competition show of video works that have been admitted to the final of the aforementioned competition. In order to take part in the competition, artists should submit a stage I application form, available on the website, by 1 March 2014. At the stage II, 10 chosen artists will be invited to the final presentation. The 10 selected videos by different authors will be presented to the audience of the International Video Art Review THE 02, the program of which includes a premiere screening in Krakow, screenings in other towns in Poland and on TVP Kultura television channel. The appointed jury will award first prize for the best video; however, it is a competition without financial rewards. There is no submission fee.

    Black Box at Edinburgh International Film Festival invites experimental submissions of any length, both film (16mm, 35mm) and video.

    Black Box is EIFF's dedicated platform for showcasing experimental cinema from around the world. Short and medium-length works on any format. As always, Black Box supports and encourages works on film - we have a super-dedicated team of projectionists and excellent 16mm and 35mm facilities. We also do our best to cater for screenings requiring multiple projectors. Films should be UK premieres, should not be available online at the time of submission, and should be no more than 12 months old by June 2014. For EIFF's submission rules and regulations please visit: http://www.edfilmfest.org.uk/submissions/rules-regulations.
