Pleasure Dome welcomes submissions of experimental, time-based media work by Canadian and international artists for our 2022-2023 programming year. The deadline for submissions is Feb. 18, 2022.

Pleasure Dome presents artists who expand, fracture and scrutinize the traditional cinematic spectacle, including those who use moving image technologies that are digital, interactive, or performative.

We feature cross-disciplinary and non-narrative moving-image artworks in a variety of styles and traditions from those of the historical avant-garde to post-modern strategies of video/film mixes; CGI animations; VR; AR; multi-channel; live video performance and other attempts to re-imagine the modernist experimental tradition. We embrace well-established techniques, including—but not limited to—amateurism; remixing; abstraction; essayistic structures; and poetry.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

-Youth perspectives from students and emerging artists
-Alternate identity and non-normative states of consciousness, including alter egos, cosplay, and meditation
-Research, found footage and archival work on migration, movement, dance, and performance
-Process work revealing or deconstructing the politics of filmmaking, including the effects of capitalism, and the accessibility and legibility of captions
-Reimagining the domestic or public space in response to conditions of the pandemic, including care work and feminine labor, or online infiltration and surveillance
-Digital labor and intimacy, from the commercialization of personal data to sex work

Please incorporate keywords in your synopsis to help support our volunteer programmers.

Pleasure Dome is committed to equitable programming by prioritizing work by women artists, Black artists, Indigenous artists, artists of colour, disabled artists, and 2SLGBTQIA+ artists. However, everyone is welcome to apply. We are committed to our organization’s history of considering political and subversive artworks, as well as artworks that collapse artistic categories and might find difficulty being placed elsewhere.

We accept single-channel films as well as multi-channel or expanded cinema projects, installation, and performance. If the form of your project is not well suited to single-channel streaming, please include relevant links to additional materials in the project description or notes. We can accommodate 35mm, Regular / Super 8, 16mm, VHS, DVD, and Blu-Ray, and Digital files.

For more information about our year-round programming, see https://pdome.org/about/programming-process-and-policy

While we appreciate the breadth and prolific nature of your practice, please apply with only ONE proposed work that is most aligned with our mandate.

Please note that our entry fee is optional. Your entry fee contributes to the intellectual and critical understanding of experimental media through writing, discussions, screenings, essays, and interviews - thank you for your support.

To waive the entry fees, please use PROMO CODE: pdome2022.
