11th Annual UNCG International Sustainability Shorts Film Competition

The University of North Carolina Greensboro (UNCG) requests submissions of short films that address sustainability, which UNCG defines as “the enduring interconnectedness of social equity, the environment, the economy, and aesthetics.”

Entries will be screened as part of the UNCG Sustainability Film and Discussion Series on Thursday, March 26, at 6:30pm EST, where winners will be announced and celebrated. Judging is based on relation to sustainability as well as concept, cinematography, acting, production quality, costuming, writing, etc.

PRIZES: 1st place: $500 / 2nd place: $300 / 3rd place: $200 / Audience Award: $100

JUDGES
Marisol Maddox, our sustainability expert, is an Arctic researcher at the Woodrow Wilson Center's Polar Institute in Washington, DC, and a graduate student in International Security at George Mason University in Arlington, VA. Her research considers the security implications of climate change and an opening Arctic, including risk mitigation and opportunities for enhanced international collaboration on regenerative solutions to shared security concerns.

Jean Michel Rolland, our film expert, is a long-time musician and painter, he brings together his two passions - the sound and the image - in digital arts since 2010. His formal research is guided by the desire to reveal the intrinsic nature of our perceptual environment and to twist it to better give new realities to the world around us.

REQUIREMENTS
• Films must be 10 mins or less in length
• Submit films via DVD or screenable online format (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.)
• Include your name, phone number, email address, length and title of film
• Include one paragraph director’s bio (150 words)
• Include one paragraph description of film (150 words) including relationship to sustainability
• Include promotional images for marketing purposes (high resolution .png or .jpg images in 16:9 ratio preferred, but poster images are also acceptable)

*By entering the competition, entrants agree to the following: 1) Films must be original work, must not infringe on any rights of others, and must have all necessary permissions. UNCG will not be held liable for any copyright infringements. 2) To claim prizes, winners must be available (in person or via audio/video connection) at the screening. 3) Entrants will retain all ownership rights to their films. 4) UNCG reserves the right to not screen any film(s) for any reason. 5) Prizes are not negotiable or transferable. 6) The decisions of the judges are final.
