The 15th Annual Iowa City Documentary Film Festival (ICDOCS) will return to Iowa City from April 26th through the 28th. Screenings will take place between FilmScene (118 E College St, Iowa City, IA 52240) and the UIowa Adler Journalism Building’s Franklin Miller Screening Room, E105 (140 W Washington St, Iowa City, IA 52240).

The Iowa City International Documentary Film Festival (ICDOCS) is an annual event run by students at the University of Iowa. The festival’s mission is to engage local audiences with the exhibition of recent short films that explore the boundaries of nonfiction filmmaking. ICDOCS screens innovative new works of 30 minutes or less that both complicate and expand upon conventional approaches to nonfiction and documentary. Events this year will include single-screen films and videos, live performance, and sound art.

“Film festivals are instrumental to cinema culture; new talent is developed and promoted, and works are seen that will never make it into theatres. You have a narrow and exciting window of opportunity through festivals to see the best and most exciting work that is being made in film, and ICDOCS is no exception.” Said, former ICDOCs director and filmmaker, Jason Livingston. “ICDOCS is an opportunity to see new films from not only here in the states, but around the world. These are films that push on the boundaries of what we think documentary cinema could be.”

The two day festival will feature 34 nonfiction shorts in competition, one feature film, and two juror screenings featuring work by renowned artists Jean-Paul Kelly and Alison S.M. Kobayashi. 16 filmmakers from across the globe will travel to Iowa City to participate in Q&A sessions following each program. A full list of Best of Festival Awards will be announced at an awards party at 8:15pm on 4/28. The full schedule can be found on the ICDOCS website: https://icdocs.wordpress.com/icdocs-2018/
