    Close-Up is thrilled to present the first European solo screening for the US artist Kelly Gallagher, comprising ten years of her moving image work across animation, live action and avant-garde collage. These two programmes offer an overview of a brilliant young artist who has demonstrated a mastery of technique, matched with a strong historical and political consciousness. Hers is a radical critique of the canon and the conservative patriarchy that structures and sustains it. Her stance is feminist, anti-imperialist and anti-racist.

    Este programa propone revisitar la trayectoria de Peter Kubelka, figura indispensable para comprender la historia del cine experimental de todos los tiempos. Junto con el cineasta hemos diseñado este recorrido que se plantea como ritual parpadeante, instantes únicos aportados por la experiencia de la proyección en soporte fílmico. A través de este corpus-ritual, podremos abordar la apreciación de su conceptualización del “cine métrico” y sus diferentes etapas.

  • Selected Experimental and Animated Works from the Women’s Film Preservation Fund

    Since 1996 the Women’s Film Preservation Fund has preserved a number of significant experimental and animated works by American women, many of which reflect pioneering approaches and unique voices.  These include works by Storm de Hirsch, Barbara Hammer, Peggy Ahwesh, Bette Gordon, and Helen Hill among others.

  • Cineinfinito #94: Massimo Bacigalupo

    Massimo Bacigalupo (Rapallo, Génova, Italia, 1947). Sus primeras obras fueron producidas por el Club de cine amateur local. Durante algunos años colaboró en la organización del Festival Internacional de cine amateur de Rapallo. En 1966 su largometraje Quasi una tangente ganó el primer premio en el Festival de cine de Montecatini. Bacigalupo, que tenía entonces diecinueve años, recuerda que estaba sentado entre el público con Lillian Gish y Anita Loos, que visitaban casualmente Montecatini (Lillian era amiga de los padres de Massimo).

  • Wheeler Winston Dixon: From Ancient History to A Hundred Years from Today

    Filmforum hosts filmmaker, cultural theorist, and film and digital historian Wheeler Winston Dixon for his first-ever screening in Los Angeles!  Based in Nebraska, and most known as a writer, Dixon has been producing eye-opening films and videos since the late 1960s.  The program will include a pair of his earlier films, Serial Metphysics, “an examination of the American lifestyle recut entirely from existing television advertisements” (Joshua Siegel) and Stargrove, a dense collage work.  We’ll be featuring a wide array of his digital work of the past four years, a remarkable array of digital manipulations of appropriated footage to produce works of social and aesthetic reflection, using technological means to critique the technological and consumerist obsessions of today.
