  • Unseen Cinema - Early American Avant Garde Film 1894-1941

Unseen Cinema: Early American Avant-Garde Film 1893-1941 premieres a comprehensive 20-program retrospective of the pre-Maya Deren inspired avant-garde film movement in America. Over 160 films in newly preserved and restored 35mm and 16mm film prints survey the hitherto unknown accomplishments of pioneer filmmakers working in the United States and abroad during the formative period of American film. The series postulates an innovative and often controversial view of experimental cinema as a product of avant-garde artists, of Hollywood directors, and of amateur movie-makers working collectively and as individuals at all levels of film production during the last decade of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century.

  • Selected Works from The Loop Collective Volume 1

The Loop Collective is a group of independent media artists formed in 1996 to develop a public platform integrating experimental film and video with other art forms. We program and produce works for presentation through exhibitions and events in both traditional and non-traditional spaces. Our mission is to explore the roots of experimental film and video by creating a dialogue with other art media. We strive to promote experimental film and video for critical engagement by cultivating relations among different artistic communities. The Loop Collective has presented gallery installations, screenings, and artist talks by renowned figures including Michael Snow, Chris Welsby, Christian Lebrat, Carolee Schneemann, and Jósef Robakowski. Programmes of films by Loop members have screened at venues including The National Film Board of Canada (Toronto), Cinema Parallele (Montreal), Winnipeg Cinematheque, NASCAD (Halifax), Club SAW (Ottawa), The Factory (Hamilton), Leeds International Film Festival (United Kingdom), and the 2010 Canadian Retrospective at EXiS Festival, (Diagonal Film Archive, Seoul).

  • Cine expandido

  • AI Split Editions #1: Hollis Frampton, A Lecture/Bruce Mcclure, Know Thy Instrument

Atelier Impopulaire Split #1 consists of an original text by Bruce McClure, an architect and performer based in New York. It is titled Know Thy Instrument, and based on a lecture given by Hollis Frampton on 30 October 1968, then published as A Lecture. Both with his text and projection performance, McClure aims at reflecting upon the body/technology dynamics, the relation with the whole projection apparatus, and the implications deriving from the removal of some of its parts. This all results in a modification of its mechanical structure, thus provoking a systemic abstraction of the obscurity/light duality in the guise of sound patterns.
