Amongst the attributes of art filmmaking, there is a kind of practice that does not belong to completed narrative or traditional documentary or to absolute abstraction. Anna Kipervaser’s artistic creations sometimes seem to be poems, wandering in an inner monologue, trying to find a way to get along with nature or to talk to animals. For this special event, Anna Kipervaser will bring six films to Whammy!, all produced on 16mm film and screened on 16mm film. For the post-screening Q&A, we will chat with Anna about her diverse artistic practice. (c.h.l.)
A momentary poem made from inner objects, a dream crawling out of a house deep in the forest, and countless insect lights coming up from the ground, this program floats and sinks in luminous mysteries. These mysteries will only be revealed quietly when a beam of light from the projector hits the screen in the dark. A film, a poem, a writer, a secret. (c.h.l.)
Thinking like someone who makes movies, like those who live in movies, and those who can't stop playing movies. Move Screen! Process Cinema! Vol. 2 revolves around the potentiality of re-situating lenses, frames, screens, and projectors. Opening with an organic pairing of cinema and nature and ending with a non-cinema experience immersed in lights and colors.
Move Screen! Process Cinema! is a series of screening events that examine the forms and settings of cinematic projection. We will explore the variable use of the screen(s) and projector(s), the expression of film materiality, and the practice of photochemistry. We celebrate small film poems, hand-made films, experimentation in analog and digital practices, installation, live performance, and the kinds of miraculous moments that almost elude us and yet because of cinema, reappear.
