    In an experimental approach to film, the mirror as a reflective device is used more in its concrete dimension that in the metaphorical: the mirror surface denounces the cinematographic transparency, the famous "window to the world" dear to André Bazin and manifests its power of illusion, infinitely poetic.

    This programme will give rise to various speculations about the self-portrait, memory, landscape, but also on the presence of mirrors in Hollywood movies that reveals a double or the narcissistic staging full of doubts and anguish.

    From Pasolini to Bazin (football) via Daney or Godard (tennis), sport has fascinated many filmmakers and film theorists, as a social fact but also for its undeniable aesthetic qualities of bodies that box, swim, run, of body represented in the effort, nudes or not. This phenomenon is part of a historical continuity of the image. Indeed, we see at the end of the nineteenth century, after centuries dominated by particular religious iconography, a resurgence of this representation, notably Manet, Cezanne and Degas.

    Febrile, spinny and shrill, sometimes registering objectively, quietly funny or meditative: The present selection of German-language short films of women from the past 50 years is versatile - just like their makers themselves. Often there were production-technical reasons that prompted them to abandon large budgets and teams and to transform and perfect the alleged "lack" into imaginative film styles. These short films from East and West Germany are both artistic works and important testimonies of film history.
