In celebration of Capture Photography Festival 2022, DIM Cinema brings together four extraordinary filmmakers to interrogate the meanings of images drawn by light. Whether translating photographs into time-based media or cutting and pasting found footage, the short films in this program disassemble memories, histories, myths, percepts, and representations, while clearing space for their potential reassembly in altered form. We enter onto a rocky-beach scene staged and photographed by Agnès Varda 30 years earlier.

Since its inception, film technology has been in constant transformation due to the demands of the industrial system. At present, the expansion of electronic tools has led to the dissolution of the boundaries between analog and digital media, prompting the discovery of new ways of creating and displaying the moving image.

Film's Not Dead!

There is a number of filmmakers worldwide who have the distinction of making themselves the emulsion which they then use to shoot. From October 27 to November 2, L'Abominable has invited a few of them to spend a week together in La Courneuve for the "Maddox Seminar", a time together for exchange and experimentation, sharing and transmission.

On this occasion, we propose a session with films by Will Rifer from Mire in Nantes, Robert Schaller from the Handmade Film Institute in Colorado, Lindsay McIntyre from Montréal, Kevin Rice from Process Reversal (Colorado & NY), Esther Urlus from Filmwerkplaats in Rotterdam and a 30-minute 16mm live performance by Alex MacKenzie.
