This program presents recent video works by Dicky Bahto and Mona Varichon that variously utilize diary filmmaking, found imagery/sounds, and collaborations with their parents.
Chicago Filmmakers is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Program Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a well-rounded understanding of filmmaking, a passion for the organization’s mission and programs, and a commitment to promoting diversity and inclusivity in the film industry. The Program Manager will be responsible for developing, planning, and implementing Chicago Filmmakers’ core year-round programs, including education, film screenings, and filmmaker services, as well as seasonal tasks in relation to CF’s two film festivals.
Four festival days challenge the horizon of the domesticated gaze: with the filmmaker in focus, the experimental animator Gudrun Krebitz, we will explore the polyphonic layering of intimate cinematic landscapes; we will get to know the blazing Pan-American experimental production through two programmes selected by the guest curator Jean-Jacques Martinod, while this year’s new section Vistas brings together what the programme team has gleaned from the wide field of current practices.

The optical printer, a device consisting of one or more projectors mechanically linked to a camera for copying film or creating special effects, is historically associated with industrial cinema. In experimental cinema, a series of women filmmakers appropriated this traditionally masculine tool to explore its relationship with the body, imagination and memory. This session includes an introductory talk on the use and history of the optical printer in experimental cinema by the researcher Julia Cortegana.
Experimental filmmaking played a significant part in Vancouver’s art scene of the 1970s. It was an important moment in the history of visual culture and film art in BC, marked by outrageous innovation, unbridled experimentation, and outright subversion. This movement flourished for many years, and was dialled into an international discourse, thanks to a visionary and colourful collection of artists, curators, and institutions. —Richard Martin

One of the most influential documentaries ever made, the film recently placed 8th on the 2022 Sight and Sound Greatest films of all time poll. The live score by Montopolis has been called "stunning and transcendent" by the Austin Chronicle.
