    Expanded cinema group Optipus presents a live multiple projection composition, using films, video, slides, liquid light & magic lanterns, plus live electronic sound, field recordings, samples, foley & shadowplay ~ on a theme of the visual fruiting body, the mycelium underground & the magic of mushrooms, evoking death, decay & regeneration, along with the biomorphic ecology of transformation & the body.

    World Cinema Carnival is fostering a vibrant and diverse community of filmmakers, producers, animators, video artists and researchers who experiment and counter the medium and language of cinema. Our thinking of curation performs beyond all subjugation and inhibitions while constantly experimenting with contextual and conceptual forms and definitions.

    Our call for entries is open for moving images in all experimental forms and lengths.

  • Sight/Geist: new NYC screening series

    The launch of Sight/Geist, the new screening series selected from an open call for NYC-based film/video artists, will occur over three thematic group screenings/discussions at The 8th Floor, 17 W 17th St NYC, free and open to all. Artists include: Simone Barros, Cassandra Celestin, Lananh Chu, Steven Cottingham, Sarah Friedland, Haisi Hu, Erin Johnson, Anne Sofie Noerskov, Georgica Pettus, Jolie Ruelle, Jess Shane & Katie Mathews, Ciaran Short, Lauryn Welch & Eloise Sherrid, and Yu Yan.

  • Filmform in Tokyo!

    During two nights in April, 19th and 20th – Filmform will present the legacy of Swedish experimental film & video art at Image Forum, Tokyo (2 Chome-10-2 Shibuya). The two separate screenings will be introduced by Filmform's Andreas Bertman and followed by a talk together with the writer Martin Grennberger.

  • JUST TO BE CLOSE TO YOU Laneya Billingsley, aka Billie Ocean

     In her immersive video installation, Just to Be Close to You, artist Laneya Billingsley, aka Billie Ocean, employs the virtual space of the video screen as a field of pure fantasy and feeling, where she wrestles with personal and inherited social conflicts, taking a deep dive down the rabbit hole of the mind, conjuring complex feelings, and communing with imagos of her ancestors.  She surrounds her audience with fantastical figures, sensuously bathing them in colored light, while playfully exploring the possibilities in embodied self-realization.
