    CINEMA PARENTHÈSE in collaboration with BALASSI INSTITUTE, CULTURAL SERVICE OF THE EMBASSY OF HUNGARY IN BRUSSELS, and CINÉ CLUB DE I'INSAS presents a program focused on GÁBOR BÓDY (1946–1985), one of the most outstanding and unusual personalities from the Hungarian and European cinema of the 70s and 80s – multi-sided, fascinating and dazzling. Through his films, lectures, video works, installations and tours Bódy became a universal source of inspiration and ideas among filmmakers and film lovers.

  • BURNING: Ceremony, War, Art. New Films by Larry Gottheim

    Larry Gottheim is a key figure in the history and development of American avant-garde cinema through the 1970s and 1980s. His early "minimal" films, such as FOG LINE, are well-known and have been widely shown at museums in the U.S. and Europe. His recent films have played in Europe and at the EXis festival in Seoul. Gottheim also founded the celebrated Cinema Department at Binghamton University, where he worked until 1998.

    V Moscow International Experimental Film Festival (MIEFF) are pleased to announce the CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS for participation in the festival's international competition program, which will be held from July 8 to July 13, 2020.

    You are invited to submit a short film (up to 50 minutes) or a full-length work including video art, experimental film, animation, found footage, new media or audio-visual performance. All works are to be made in 2019 — 2020. Also, they are to be presented in Russia for the first time./p>

  • Wonderland - A Xiaolu Guo Double Bill

    Inspired by Walter Benjamin’s essay on art and mechanical reproduction, the latest documentary feature by novelist and filmmaker Xiaolu Guo takes us to a village near Shenzhen, in southern China, where a cottage industry produces made-to-order copies of Western masterpieces. Exploring the contemporary nature of images and the interconnections between people from different worlds, the film intercuts the life of a Chinese painter copying Caravaggio’s John in the Wilderness (c. 1604) and the life of the Swiss-Italian poet in London who commissioned it.

    David Haxton (b. 1943, Indianapolis, Indiana) is an artist who works primarily in Photography and Film. His films from the 1970’s and early 1980’s were made mostly in negative, with a static camera position, and were made in one take. In these films the space filmed is revealed gradually by a performer, while the intrinsic flatness of the illuminated screen is maintained.

  • Ambiance Festival / The Becoming-World - Art and Digital Practice.

    On the occasion of the release of the collaborative experimental film of Metavilla videomaton, Les Colonnes invite the time of a night to an artistic meeting questioning the current digital practices. In 2018, the city of Blanquefort appealed to the Metavilla studio to imagine an innovative project that could educate young and old about digital practices and cultures. From this partnership is born the video metavilla, a video booth, which the Blanquefortais massively used for a whole year to become actors and participate in the creative adventure of a collaborative film.
